A fictional campaign has invited volunteers to tour its grassroots headquarters, where the grass is an imported carpet requiring special shoes. Organizers said the natural color communicates authenticity without attracting insects or ordinary weather.

Captain Freedom followed volunteer Rae through the building. The small-donor room was large, the listening room was locked and the policy team had been moved to make space for a ring light.

Rae asked where she could discuss local bus service. A strategist directed her to a microphone used exclusively for recording enthusiastic agreement. She instead opened the door for a waiting constituent. The campaign called the encounter an unscheduled listening incident and ordered a softer carpet.
