Fact Check: A Forecast Is Not a Receipt From the Future

FACT CHECK

Dr. Cynthia Source investigated a fictional pundit's claim that a forecast proved events had already happened. His evidence consisted of a chart with a dotted line, which he described as history using an adventurous font.

A forecast estimates what may happen under assumptions; it does not turn uncertainty into a completed transaction. Revisions are not automatically evidence of deception. They may reflect new information or changed conditions.

The pundit accepted this distinction and immediately launched a premium channel selling tomorrow's revised certainty. Cynthia declined a subscription. Asked what would happen next, she offered the most controversial sentence of her career: she did not yet know. The channel rated her confidence insufficient for broadcast.
