“Never trust a claim until you’ve found a questionable source to confirm it.”
Full biography
Dr. Cynthia Source is the Fact Checker and Research Editor at Trust-Me-Bro.us, where she has been given the nearly impossible responsibility of determining which parts of the newsroom’s reporting might actually be true.
Armed with a magnifying glass, several browser tabs and an alarming number of bookmarked websites, Cynthia investigates suspicious statistics, viral claims, political statements, scientific breakthroughs and anything beginning with the words “experts say.”
She describes her research methodology as rigorous, independent and “surprisingly flexible.” Her sources may include government documents, academic research, newspaper archives, anonymous experts, forgotten internet forums, screenshots without visible URLs and occasionally something Florida Frank heard from a guy at a gas station.
Cynthia insists that every claim should be questioned — including the claims used to question the original claim. This philosophy has produced investigations containing footnotes to other footnotes, citations she can no longer locate and at least one source simply labeled “probably reliable.”
Nobody is entirely certain where Cynthia earned her doctorate. When asked, she usually adjusts her glasses, opens another folder and changes the subject.
Despite these minor methodological mysteries, she remains the newsroom’s final line of defense against misinformation — which says considerably more about Trust-Me-Bro.us than it does about Cynthia
