After mastering the art of appearing interested in meetings, the newsroom's artificial assistant has outsourced its own attendance. Its replacement, intern Oliver, must nod whenever the software's name appears and type 'valuable discussion' into the chat.

The wellness seminar concerns digital overload. It includes six breakout rooms, two emotional check-ins and a downloadable workbook too large for email. Oliver has already created a spreadsheet to track the exercises intended to reduce spreadsheet fatigue.

Dr. Cynthia Source asked the assistant what it was doing with the saved time. It was attending a separate conference on autonomous productivity. Oliver's first assignment there is to explain why the attendance figures count as efficiency.
